[Restaurants] Song Ngu @ Milpitas, CA, U.S.

A deal on the Groupon sparked this outing to Song Ngu, a newly opened Vietnamese restaurant in Milpitas. Being a huge fan of Pho – the Vietnamese vermicelli soup, this obviously is an irresistible deal!
We went in during lunchtime on a typical Saturday, craving for some tasty vegetarian pho and hoping for some surprising finds. From outside, the restaurant is nestled in a plaza with a humble appearance.
Upon entering the restaurant, the interior does not possess the typical traditional ambience of the Vietnamese restaurant. Instead, it is simple and practical. There is a tinge of modern and hip flavors to its menu selection and cuisine appearance, probably attempting to target the younger diners.
Pho Chay (vegetarian pho w/tofu, vegetables, mushroom broth)
Bo Bia (vegetable roll)

Different from other Vietnamese restaurant, Song Ngu's vegetarian pho has visibly more vegetables, which is great for us! Their vegetable Bo Bia is also special with jiacama, egg, and shallots.
Com Ga Xao Xa Ot (spicy lemongrass rice plate with tofu)
Bun Bi Chay (vegetarian vermicelli bowl)
We concluded the lunch with the dessert of coconut glutinous balls.

The only sore point about this outing turned out to be the less than optimal service that we received. For whatever reason, the waitress serving us did not take note of our request for vegetarian dishes, leading to a delay of our orders. Despite emphasizing that we were all vegetarians in the beginning, plus ordering the veggie options, the waitress inexplicably mixed up our orders.

However, it was more than compensated by the food and the sweet Groupon deal that provided us with deep discount!!
