This Mediterranean eatery is one of our all-time favorites. We often made the effort to visit this extremely humble “Drive-In” for some incredibly tasty falafel sandwiches located in San Jose (next to the Santana Row and Valley Fair shopping center). Today is no exception, as we drop by the eatery en route to Santana Row for some shopping =)
As you can see, the Falafel's Drive-in is a small, relatively low-profile eatery that could be easily missed or overlooked. But its reputation has traveled far and beyond its small perimeter to recruit a large fan base, keeping its business forever bustling! The owner is still relying on pencil-and-paper for taking down the orders and punching the cash register machine for transactions. That's old school!!
Oh, the drive-in was also featured on the Food Network...this could only help its business!
Of course, ordering the signature falafel sandwiches got to be a no-brainer. But other vegetarian options such as hummus plate, tabbouleh, baba ganoush are equally good. By the way, its hot sauce is ridiculously goood! We ate so much tasty food, yet it is ever so budget-friendly, the best of both world!
Because of its local fame, the owner often has trouble closing the eatery on time with a long line of customers waiting for their turn to order. Amazing that such a low-budget eatery could command such popularity, isn't it?
